Wine Wine Wine

Collection of wine news and wine-related feeds

The Daily Telegraph is reporting an invention (above) that “turns a cheap bottle of plonk into a vintage-tasting wine in a matter of minutes.” <link>

Here’s what the inventor says, “This machine can take your run-of-the-mill £3.99 bottle of plonk and turn it into a finest bottle of vintage tasting like it costs hundreds.”

Maybe. What it does is ages a wine in 30 minutes. The DT quotes Andre Jones, a winemaker from Buzzard Valley Vineyard, near Tamworth, Staffs. “Casey (the inventor) took one of our bottles and brought it back for us to try after it had been in the machine. I was amazed, it had definitely aged.”

Unfortunately just aging a wine doesn’t guarantee that it’s going to taste any better especially if it was rubbish to start with.

I’ve heard, but never tried it, that you can do the same trick with the microwave in your kitchen. This one’s not for me. I’m going to let my wines age in their own time.
