Look closely. The designer of this Sancerre label left the place-holding Lorem Ipsum text on the label. Proofreader delight.

Swanson Vineyards in the Napa offer the opportunity to purchase their wines with a label appropriate to the occasion or moment. Great idea. I’ll bet the “please forgive me” option is a best seller.

“Today’s recommended wines are first and foremost food-friendly. In general, the overall quality of the kosher wine we tasted is better and more consistent than our last look two years ago. Though well-established Israeli brands were generally available, it was tougher to find French, Chilean, Spanish and New Zealand kosher wines this time.”

I didn’t know about the “U”, “K” or “P” labelling protocol. That’s really interesting.

“The label will carry the certifying organization’s symbol, often a circled “U” or “K.” In addition, wines labeled as kosher for Passover also carry a P to the right of the circled symbol.”

Lovely Package has the story. This is the Poor Thing Grenache, there is also an equally impressively labelled Bo Diddley Riesling.

Beautiful label. I’m not familiar with the Chateau or the wine but the label is excellent.  According to Packaging News, “Design Bridge in London has created the identity for Déesse red wine from Chateau D’Esclans. The design was inspired by the chateau’s ancient vines, and combines imagery of deer roaming the surrounding woods and the hunting goddess Diana. Group PR director Rene Lutters said the aim was to create a brand that would stand out from the chateau’s rosé wines and other reds from the region.”

They succeeded. More details on the wine and purchasing here <link>

The 2006 wine label designed by British artist Lucian Freud. (Chateau Mouton Rothschild/Associated Press)

The 2006 wine label designed by British artist Lucian Freud. (Chateau Mouton Rothschild/Associated Press)

Lucien Freud is joining the collection of artists who have designed labels for Mouton Rothschild. Here’s a full report from Canadian site <link> which tells readers in the Miami area that…

“A selection of the labels and the original artworks commissioned for them since 1945 are on display at the Miami Beach museum through March 8.”

You have two days to get there!

The report goes on…

“the chateau has commissioned work from a contemporary artist for each new vintage.

Many of the early labels were commissioned from Philippe’s artist friends. Later, luminaries such as Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky and Francis Bacon contributed paintings.

Freud’s label for the 2006 vintage — an image of a happy zebra head and a potted palm tree — playfully echoes similar elements from his 1944 painting The Painter’s Room.

Of course, the red-and-yellow zebra is happy. Freud, like all the artists before him, gets cases of “his” vintage of Mouton Rothschild in lieu of a fee.”

Good idea. Never forget the name and vintage of that great vintage ever again. Just like all those noticeboard ads selling stuff and looking for flatmates. Found here <link>. Thanks.
